Out of all the chaos that goes on with the comments and opinions of the great city of Rensselaer, there comes a time once in a while where the community comes together and helps out a citizen or family who is in need. There are several places to make donations for the Kidd family such as the car wash on August 23rd at the volunteer fire department, the DeMotte State Bank, the many coffee cans around town, and the First Assembly of God church. I love to see how the community can come together at a time like this. Now would be a great time to say, “I like to live here.” I find that the community rarely comes together to help out people in need. But when it does come together, it does make a great impact on lives. It’s great. It also makes a great story to read in the Rensselaer Republican. I really hope the Kidd family get back on their feet quickly. That’s all for now. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

It’s been a very triumphant day for a Monday. My name was finally mentioned in The Buzz of the Rensselaer Republican. Hopefully readers and buzzers will read elucky9 and be like, “who’s that?” They’ll Google my name and see all the posts I have on here. And jackpot! Buzzers will have something better to buzz about. And my work will be done.

On another thought, how’s that construction project going over there on Melville Street? I see that this issue of getting to school is becoming an increasing concern. I love the comments people put at the bottom of articles. I bet if you put those buzzers in a locked room they’d rip each other apart. Well, that’s it for now. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

Let’s Hear it for the Band!

It’s been awhile since my last blog. I just wanted to congratulate the Rensselaer Central High School Band for all the hard work they’ve put in for their marching band show. They put tremendous effort into the marching program every year, and every year the band does not get much credit or recognition in return. Where has the support gone? Yes, the band is small. I would still say it’s in reconstruction…still. But you can’t just rely on the band director to fix the problem. The band needs all the support it can get. Are the parents of Rensselaer even suggesting to join the RCHS/RCMS band? It’s true, it takes great responsibility and effort and work to be in band. But if band numbers decrease, then what’s that tell you? The kids of Rensselaer lack responsibility? Lack effort? Lack hard work? Don’t you think that if the city(and its citizens) respects and encourages the band, they’re going to be motivated even more? If I knew that that city supported and enjoyed my hard work, I would put an even greater effort in just because the people enjoy it so much. They get excited about it or a thrill. At the state fair band day, there were crowds of band parents/supporters for every band. Then it kills me to think about our band. Our band does not get enough support. It could improve, greatly. So if you’re ever sitting at a football game this fall and you see the band, give them all the support you could possibly give. How would you like it if no one gave you recognition for anything you’ve done? The band has great talent and great potential. None of it will show unless Rensselaer greatly appreciates the RCHS or RCMS band. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

This is false. Time after time now I’ve tried to submit on “a topic of my choice” but I’ve never actually seen it in the paper. Hence, this blog. Now the problem is how can I get the word out about this blog? The Rensselaer Republican is hardcore about sensoring real media. Instead of something that could stimulate the mind or educational reading, you have people bashing each other about saying nobody cares about Kid Rock. But yet, if I say, “hey Rensselaer, come see my blog,” the post never sees the light of day. What do I have to do? Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

What’s going on in Rensselaer, IN?? The Rensselaer Republican sensors every idea that seems to be “outside the box” pertaining to any media. The Rensselaer Republican says it doesn’t post anything over 50 words, but yet I’ve seen a post the other day with 150 words. Now why can’t my post about coming over to elucky9′s site to see what’s going down in Rensselaer. Why does the paper think it can sensor the ideas of citizens? I mean, they seem to be sensoring the type of media that actually makes some think. But yet, they let all the bashing and flamming of other citizens pass. Why?? Readers of the Rensselaer Republican or fellow paper buzzers should be given the chance to have some supplemental reading. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

A brief notion on car dealerships….

Ok, I forgot about this encounter with the dealerships of Rensselaer, IN. The dealerships there (and their salesmen) S-U-C-K!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I advise anyone from Rensselaer or passing by Rensselaer or live around those dreadful dealerships. DO NOT give them your business. They DO NOT deserve it. Go somewhere else. You have a better shot getting better service, a better deal, and a better automobile in Monticello or Renolds than you do in Rensselaer. Try it. I dare you. I mean, Monticello is pretty much a get away from Rensselaer. It does have a Super Walmart for crying out loud. That’s it on car dealerships of Rensselaer. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

The JCF 2008…thoughts

I was reserved about posting anything about the fair until the week passed. And… well, then I sat there thinking what I should talk about after the fair? The demo derby was cool, but they’re always cool. I always look forward to them every year, although, I feel like a hick when I go see them because the audience around me is nothing but hicks, or unclean people. But that’s what I get for enjoying the derby. It’d be cool to enter one year and show everyone how a *real* derby goes down. Does anyone else feel down and a little depressed that Saturday morning when the fair closes down and the grounds are dead again. It’s soooo weird! It gives me the creeps almost. Wasn’t the fair a little early this year? One thing I love about the days where there are animal shows is when you have multiple family members competing their animals, and they’re with each other allllll dayyyyyy lllloooonnnnggggg. I walk by the dairy barn and they’re arguing with each other. It’s too funny, but I try not to be rude in front of them. But I mean, if you can’t save your family bickering for somewhere private, then you’re open for comments all up and down the fair grounds….or a page to the horse barn! That’s always a good prank at the fair!! Swine judging was cool…the paper messed up the last name…it’s Castor and not Castro. I guess they weren’t used to a name that wasn’t….hmmm….it’s on the tip of my tongue… R something…Ro…Rod….Rodibaugh?? Castor or Rodibaugh, which is harder to spell? Oh well, that’s Rensselaer for you, eh fellow Rensselaerians?? All in all, fair was mediocre. I love fair food, as well probably everyone else who goes to the fair. And you can’t beat those deliciously over priced milkshakes complimented with waiting for some fresh baked cookies. That’s livin’ right there. I wonder how it is camping there for the week. That’s gotta rock! Because of the Jasper County Fair, that’s a guaranteed week of not being bored. ‘Til next year, fair! Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

Reorganization…

Something I noticed while in town…

There are cities and towns all across our nation that get superb ratings. So good, they’re ranked in the top places to live. Now tell me this: Where would Rensselaer, IN rank? You don’t think anywhere in Indiana could rank? False. Look it up. I dare you. Well, while in town I noticed there was construction in the Pizza Hut area. Apparently there is yet another bank coming to town. Whooooop-deeee-doooo! Why!! Folks, we all know Rensselaer could use better things than another flippin’ bank. And didn’t we get a new bank recently on Drexel? That’s new enough. Why can’t we put in something useful? An Applebee’s so we’re not draining our funds at *cough* Rico’s? That place is a flat out joke of a bar ‘n’ grill. I’m spending more for a low quality meal than I would buying the overpriced generic food at County Market. I’m not ranting because I think Rensselaer is a horrible place to live. I’m ranting because Rensselaer has great potential, but you have city officials who sit on there hands the whole time they’re in office. Didn’t we have an election? To ‘Change Rensselaer?’ What happened?? My theory is people got scared of that first word: change. Is it so scary? Then you had those “buzzers” in the paper questioning change. “I love Rensselaer. What’s there to change?” Idiot! Look around! You don’t see that nth bank coming to town? Wow, we have a theater!! Oh wait…I’ll still go out of town to see a movie because I like to have feeling in my body from sitting for 2 hours. Kudos for the Ritz opening though. That place is cool. Are our parks ever going to improve? How many years has that project on Melville been simmering? It’s finally been executed because the federal funding was getting ready to be pulled? Hey, how long did we have that funding anyway? And so on and so forth. Who is seriously running the city? Sure, Airhood was great, but your time runs down sometime. His ran down years ago, but there’s that change factor again. Reorganize this place. Reorganize the structure. Either put a new mayor in (one that doesn’t run for Independent) or wipe out the whole mayor concept all together. Reorganize. Throw in a town council, hire a town manager, elect a clerk-treasurer, and run with it. Gain “Town” status rather than “City” and let Rensselaer grow. “Town has a bad stigma to it. It makes us sound run down.” Well look around! You’re half way there. Drive from Columbia Park to Martin’s on Elm Street. If we reorganized, we could revamp everything else: our development staff…put bigger and better projects in the town. Our parks staff, maintain and develop our parks. Public works and Wastewater Treatment? Any of the this sticking? I love Rensselaer. Everyone’s story: “I grew up there and now have a family of my own.” I’ve seen other places though. This town has great potential. Other towns that were around 5, 10, 15 years ago had “town” status. 15 years ago, a town in Indiana had barely 100 employees working for it. Today, there’s over 360(something) employees. It’s noted to have a huge growth over those years. There’s a tremendously great leadership team there. Rensselaer’s got that some pontential. Anywhere does, we just need that right leadership team. After the years of living in Rensselaer, I want to be able to be proud of where I live. Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…

Cruise Night. Was that it?

The referenced event occured on July 5th, 2008 in Rensselaer, IN.

Ok for starters, Cruise Night sucked this year. Honestly. It did. In my eyes and to the rest of the “citizens” of Rensselaer, it could have been better. In my days in Rensselaer, I’ve seen better. And what’s this circulating around town that the route was supposed to be the same, but then changed the last minute? What was the route? I only saw a select few cars go by, and that was it. Was that it? Why is it as the years go by, anything Rensselaer or Jasper County related (i.e Fair) as people asking, “Is that it?” Seriously. What is going on with this town? Excuse me, city. The correct term for Rensselaer is city. It’s not the size that determines if you’re a city or a town. Google or wikipedia it. I dare you. We need to take not a new direction for this city, but a different one. Different from whatever direction it’s going towards now. Why? Because in 3, 5, 10 years from now, people are going to go by and say the very same thing that citizens are already saying. Was that it? Take care, Rensselaer. ‘Til next time…
